A warning

A warning

When the separation between church and state is erased, the one is subsumed into the other. It is not the state that loses its identity and purpose. It is the church. It is already happening.

When a large part of the evangelical church weds itself to the MAGA agenda, it sacrifices its distinctive message. There is no gospel in Trumpism: no grace, no mercy, no compassion, no love, certainly no love for enemies as Jesus commanded, and even little love for neighbors.

“Be on your guard against false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside, but on the inside they are really like wild wolves. You will know them by what they do.” (Matthew 7:15-16)

  1. Tim, I read your remarks about President Trump. However, I don’t remember you saying anything about Joe Biden. He is a man filled with love, but only for himself. He pardons prisoners on death row, which is good – killing others violates one of God’s highest commandments. But he cheers the deaths of unborn babies. He acts not to benefit his constituents but to enrich himself and his family by benefitting others. He cares not for the poor or the middle class who have suffered greatly under his presidency. That is why they didn’t vote for him. His fiscal policies have threatened the wellbeing of generations to come.
There are some blames that can be laid at the feet of Donald Trump, but let us not neglect to blame the bigger culprit.

  2. The difference is that Biden’s supporters are not calling for the abolition of the wall between church and state, while many of Trump’s supporters are. Biden’s supporters do not believe him an agent of God, while many of Trump’s do. The warning, in this instance, is not to the nation, but to the church. Wedding church to state will mean the death of the church.

  3. Tim, thank you so much for having the courage to speak out on this important issue. You say so eloquently what many of us believe but are either afraid to say or unable to put into words.
